PRESS RELEASE

“American Happiness” Documentary Chronicles the Stories – and Lessons – From Happy People in All 50 States

Join entrepreneur Michelle Wax on her journey across America to learn how people create more happiness and fulfillment, regardless of external circumstances

BOSTON, MA–January 12, 2021–In 2019, entrepreneur Michelle Wax left Boston and crossed the country in her Jeep, visiting all 50 states and talking to more than 500 people in the (literal) pursuit of happiness. She chronicled her journey in American Happiness, an independent documentary film. Viewers can join Wax as she travels across the country to learn how everyday Americans reach internal happiness, regardless of external circumstances.

“This has been a challenging year for everyone, and there’s no better time for us to talk about the habits that create happiness and fulfillment, regardless of the circumstances we can’t control,” said Wax, who went on to found the American Happiness Project after filming the documentary.  “American Happiness is a true testament to how powerful your mind is in helping you create a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life. It’s important now more than ever to show people how to achieve that level of happiness.”

The film is a tribute not only to the resilience of the American spirit, but also the beautiful landscape of the United States. It combines learnings and advice from more than 500 self-described “happy people” that Wax interviewed, shares the science behind happiness, and discusses how to use that knowledge for long-term joy in daily life. Viewers also get an inside glimpse into Wax’s adventure, as she sets off across the country alone as a first-time filmmaker, meeting a cast of characters along the way. In a year lacking human connection, American Happiness delivers touching human stories from all walks of life.

American Happiness will premiere virtually Thursday, February 25 at 7:30pm EST. While the premiere will take place online, there will be opportunities to share, discuss and connect throughout the screening.
